Abstract
Effect of ceforanide, a second-generation cephalosporin, was evaluated in 20 patients with respiratory infections.
Overall efficacy rates were 84% in pyogenic bacterial infections with 2 gm /day IV administration for 4-15 days. However, failed cases with ceforanide were unresponsive to other antibiotics also.
As side effects, there were transient elevation of serum GOT, GPT and alkaline phosphatase levels in four cases, elevation of BUN and serum creatinine in one case and gastric upset in one case.
